Jojo and the magic Life turned into a quilt:D

Thanks Jake for making me this pretty image:D We were all happy when this was finally finished:D It feels amazing powerful enlightening relieving joyful Like sumiting a giant mountain…a mountain of fabric:D When something this monolithic gets complete:D THanks Jake and Kiddos and family and friends for all the love and encouragement that got this thing to the pinnacle:D

Jolleen So what happens when my baby cousin asks me to create a masterpiece? She sends me a huge box with these lovelies and I get to work:D
Jo17

Jo4
Do I dare cut? This beautiful sweater full of love and memories? Yes I do:D And all of these shirts too.

Jo5
Look at the pretty piles:D

Jo2
I made sure to save every scrap I could. This came in handy for the crazy backing and the binding. Came in handy for making me crazy too:D HAHAHAHAHA:D

jo3
I measured as I cut so I could minimize the trimming when it came time to make rows.
Jo6
I dont know if this picture gives any perspective of the heap of scraps haha:D

Jo7
Look what remained:D A pretty organized stack of measured pretty shirt designs:D Plus the giant pile of backs and sleeves:D Most of these shirts did not go to waste and no animals were harmed:D

Jo8 Laying the rows is fun to do to do to do:D

Jo9
To do

Jo10

Jo11
To do

Jo12
To do

Jo13
to do
Jo14
TO DO!!!

Jo15
So no matter how much measuring and cutting I do, the cutting and measuring keeps showing up for more:D So in this step Im realizing how many shirts there actually are and im trying to shrink them so that they can all fit into one giant gorgeous inspiring (because shes inspiring…most of these are race shirts):D Love my little energizer bunny couzins:D

Jo16

Jo18
I know its blury but it was so much work I want to remember haha:D These are all folded under and squeeezed in and now I will pin them at the folds and go chop them up somemore:D

Jo19
AND THEN… PELLON…

Jo20
The stabilizer. Here we see the backing being stabilized. and in the back on the table are the newly trimmed and Polloned shirt designs:D This is kind of a boring pic but Its the only one I have to remind me of the ironing that Liz did for me haha:D THankyou LIZ!!!

Jo21 Melo also helped… me watch movies. Look you can see the Christmas pants in progress right there too haha:D Oh and theres the stacks of pelloned shirts again:D Hooray for an amazing sewing room. Its totaly amazing to be able to leave my mess always:D

Jo22
LOOK its an EMMA:D and shes helping me with the backing that has been all Pelloned up… seriously people you really have to love someone to pellon that much:D

Jo24 Another blury pic of the rows all sewn up:D

Jo23 LOOOOOOK!!!! They are all together!! its the top!!:D haha:D I would like to take this moment to thank my Mom and my God and My husband…and my agent who will show up someday and make all this worth it hahah jkjk:D This picture actually made it all worth it:D Hooray:D

Jo25 Oh did you think you were done? Oh no there are still hundreds of tiny little squares to sew together and Pellon and roll up and iron in half and pin and so on you know the binding drill:D

Jo26 Oh yeah the back. Isnt it crazy and pretty and stubbornly didnt want to lay strait. Tshirt material is so hard to really stabilize and sew together without streatching it. This is the best I could do. This was actually the easiest part of the whole thing:D Just sewed it all into one strip and then cut it in half and sewed it together again and so on. Its a really fun way to make a strip blanket too:D Just random easy peasyness:D

Jo28 Laying this mother out and basting it can go down in history as well.. hellish hahaha:D Or if my perspective diversifies I burned SOOOO many calories:D

Jo27
I got a little fancy with the quilting on a couple of sqares:D I love the washable crayola markers for drawing my designs. Im not expert enough yet to just go free hand…but ill get there:D and I needed one more shot of that roll of hundreds of little 2.5 inch squares that I used for the binding. The whole quilt is totally made of Jo’s shirts:D I impress mysef sometimes haha.

Jo29
I did a simple stitch for the rest of the quilting to keep it stimple and let the shirts do their thing:D

Jo31 “Sigh” I think this is my fav quilt so far. I dont want to do shirts again… like EVER haha Insert Taylor Swift song:D we are never ever ever getting back together hahaha:D Maybe

Jo32

Jo33

Jo34Just a little close up of the back of the design I did. My first time making a little pretty on a quilt was so intimidating haha but super satisfying:D

Jo35

Jo30
And now to send it off to be cuddled:D Sigh

Tony’s Metal Zombie Quilt:D

Tony_quilt09
One day my Bro brought me a pile of scary metal shirts haha:D Worlds colided and we made a metal blanket… Doesn’t sound cozy but watch this pile of metal memorabilia turn into a blanket of epicness:D

tony_quilt01
Chopping off all the extras takes forever so once you get it done laying it out totally satisfied my little happy sewing soul.

Tony_quilt04
After the lay out comes more trimming and scaling so that they all fit and are lined up well. As you can see the Zombie guy needed to be centered. It wouldnt do to see his cute off the wall string weapon belt in a less than prominent position. SO the art commenced.

Tony_quilt02
After the art there is ironing. Those zombies and skeletal remains of ancient warriors needed to be fused to some pellon hence stabilizing them and letting them live on for many years of love and cozy cuddling. Now thats the afterlife I bet they smile at:D No but for reals…the ironing turned me into a zombie and made me sware off tshirt quilts again…

Tony_quilt07
Look at that happy pile of stabilized death lords.

Tony_quilt06
what to do with the white row. Who makes white metal shirts? Guns and roses apparently… smh. I made it work haha:D I decided since there were so many shirts that needed to be included that a front and a back of fandom would work best. so which zombies would clash with eachother and do clowns get along with giant sea monsters? Well only time will tell.

Tony_quilt05
After a month or two of prep we finally have sewing in the sewing room.

Tony_quilt08
Look!! They are so happy together:D

Tony_quilt10
Beth is blown away:D She loves making her hubby happy:D

Tony_quilt11
Front With the metal head himself:D

Tony_quilt12
and heres that back:D I love that smile. It made the ironing and laying out and staring at zombies worth it:D This guy deserves some warm cuddles:D hes an amazing daddy and uncle and I love that he is a big kid:D He makes our family better:D Love you Tony!!:D Happy cuddles:D

Bella’s Rainbow Quilt

Bella90
Bella is a rainbow so she needed a rainbow blankie:D It all began when I joined a fabric swap hosted by a friend Robyn. These are the fabrics I sent in:D I couldnt contain myself:D haha

Bella91
These are the fabrics I sent in:D I couldnt contain myself:D haha

Bella6
I got back two sets of 20 blocks of each of 10 colors so I had 400 squares of beautiful colors of the rainbow haha:D

Bella3
ORANGE:D

Bella4
RED:D

Bella15
GREEN:D I LOVE THESE GREENS!!!

Bella21
This fabric belonged to my Grandmother. Making my Grandma a part of my babys blanket just brings me a bit of nostalgia and comfort:D I love you Grandma Sally:D HI!!

Bella8
I decided after much debate that Half Square Triangles ROCKED and I needed them in my life:D So I chose a white hawaiian print to go with the beautiful colors…of the wind:D

Bella17
And I started drawing my lines:D

Bella20
Found my Disguised helper..

Bella26
and made these piles of future HSTs:D

Bella25
And then..sewing began in Ernest.

Bella34
Chain Sewing became my own personal…joy:D I should do a tutorial…

Bella33
Sewing sewing all the day:D I actually have a whole pinterest bored dedicated to HSTs

Bella13
More minions for cutting:D Thanks boys:D

Bella37
and bam beautiful piles ready for…

Bella10
Ironing:D Soooo satisfying:D

Bella35
More Piles ready to lay out…

Bella9
but how? I asked everyone on instagram and they all liked pinwheeles and but then I asked my Bella and she chose …

Bella44
This:D

Bella41
I loved laying it out and thought I would try it all kinds of ways

Bella46
But laying out 800 squares is a lot harder than I thought lol

Bella47
So i just rolled with it:D

Bella48
and kept rolling
Bella52
and rolling…

Bella49
and almost there
Bella50
And Tadaaaaaaaaa:D

Bella78
I chose to make all of the triangles go straight up and down instead of diagonal. I thought it looked better.

Bella53
That means I am sewing diagonal strips.

Bella54
We (my minions My lovely Mother and I) pinned them because…

Bella58
800 squares just stacked with three well meaning children a dog and nieces and nephews galore made the effort well worth it.

Bella62 Oh the pretty bobbins all in a row.

Bella59
LOOK!! They are strips! Who would have thought we would ever get to this point?

Bella57
Sewing the strips together!! Notice the extra triangle on the end of the strip so I could keep all of the color. Some people would cut them but I wanted to keep them so I did and just added a triangle. No biggie:D

Bella77
Matching points and sewing strips together!!! Im soooo HAPPY!

Bella64
Im shaking im so excited! its FABULOUS!! just need little

Bella63
Ironing… and by a little I mean ALOT!!! Holy Ironing Hell haha:D

Bella80
But we did it. And if Im in Ironing Hell at least its a beautiful one haha:D

Bella81
And drum roll please!!! We have the laying out and basting portion of our broadcast:D I used the spray adhesive for basting. Its tricky here and there but we figured it out.

Bella67
Look its my Grandmas fabric:D there are a few of hers in there but this one makes me smile:D

Bella66
And were quilting. As you will see I did a very very very simple straight yet diagonal line every other ditch. So I tried to sew in the ditch but the ditch didnt want to be sewn in so i moved it a little to the side haha.

Bella68
Look its binding!! I made that! its just amazing everything Learned from doing this project. Making my own binding for the first time blew my mind:D SO FUN! and COOL! it felt professional πŸ˜€

Bella69
I watched a few tutorials and had to start over a couple of times haha!! For example
Bella70
Look what I tried to do. haha… Dont do this. thats not how it works…if you did this..go back and watch another tutorial and try again. Small kine frustrating lol. but live and learn right:D and break into our favorite song let it goooo LET IT GOOOOOOO! cry a little and move on haha.
Bella71
There we go:D Thats more like it. I did it on the machine all the way around on both sides. Its just how I roll. Most people hand stitch the back of the binding once they sew it on the front but I thought a little decorative stitching was super cute.
Bella75
Awe yeah. So Bella loves blue and turquoise. I bought a purple sheet for the backing but she asked if it could be a mermaid color… so we searched and found this beautifuness…

Bella76
that makes all of the colors stand out. Hooray:D

Bella82
BAM!!! And that my friends is the story of Bellas Rainbow quilt:D I absolutely LOVE this blanket and im super proud of myself for taking it on and finishing it:D Hooray for learning new things:D

These next photos are just gorgeous and I love them and just hope you enjoy them a little:D Love my baby haha:D

Liz and Mandy Conquer the world:D

liz_quilt0

American Patchwork & Quilting Feb 2012 issue had this kit, by Bill Kerr and Weeks Ringle of Funquilts/Modern Quilt Studio, and Liz Chose it for this fabric. Totally easy to follow.

liz_quilt01

SOOO TINY!!! So worth it haha:D

liz_quilt02

The moment you realize how small 3.5 inches really is. Smh. Never thought I would finish haha.

liz_quilt03

So many different cuts are hard sometimes to keep track of. I use pins and sticky notes and mark off each on as I go.

liz_quilt04

I LOVE THESE PILES:D all ready to sew:D

liz_quilt05

Staying organized so the quilt will be random… so random right?

liz_quilt06

liz_quilt07

liz_quilt08

Its amazing how much work has gone into just these half blocks. Mind opened up and blown up.

liz_quilt09

I have a love hate relationship with pins. Sometimes I love the time they save me at the sewing machine and sometimes I hate the time it takes to pin before I get there and skip it haha. either way one step closer to completion always feels good:D

liz_quilt11

liz_quilt10

More cutting and organizing so the chaos looks chaotic:D

liz_quilt12

So I tried to make sure that no blocks on the squares were from the same fabric. It gets a little tedious but if I stay focused and keep the piles together it works out pretty quickly.

liz_quilt13
Liz spent hours ironing with me. Couldnt have finished this without her in such a short time:D I LOVE YOU LIZ!!! Sewing with friends rocks:D

liz_quilt14
It looks like only 5 Pieces but really its 9 πŸ˜€

liz_quilt15

getting ready to lay these puppies out.

liz_quilt16

So Exciting to finally get to this stage!

liz_quilt17

Once the rows are sewn together its time to add the mini rows:D haha or sashing..its whatevers:D

liz_quilt18

Liz doing her ironing thang:D Isnt she Gorgeous!!

liz-quilt19
Finally all together:D

liz_quilt20

Time to quilt and stuff:D I used a super high loft batting. It made the poofy squares that much more amazing:D

liz_quilt21

And it made the back boarder super interesting to look at. Dont mind my little mistakes:D Thats how you know its homemade haha:D and that im a beginner lol:D

liz_quilt22

Bobby pins were perfect for holding the border in place.
I thought this boarder matched the Japanese theme with its fireworkishness:D

A quilt For Ruth and Isi:D

Okay SO This has to be my favorite Minky/Cotton Rag quilt EVER!:D Im so grateful Mom and Dad came and gave me the opportunity and motivation to get it done in time for Christmas:D Merry Christmas and a Warm New Year!:D Love you Both so much:D Thanks for being the best grandparents my kids could ask for:D Aloha!!:D P.S. I promise I am working on my Photography skills. Just squint a little and it looks almost in focus πŸ˜€

Rag Quilt
Blue and green Have been my Favorite colors I think since I moved to Hawaii and watched the mountains from the ocean. Sigh. I’m going to have to make one for me too. haha

Rag Quilt
Look Theres a turtle and a Palm tree. I love the Moko Designs too. The fun never stops up in here:D

Rag Quilt
Okay so the turtle looks kind of not like a turtle but its amazing how absolutely proud of it I am hahaha.

Rag Quilt
Just showing the extra mink here with a pretty Plumeria to give some Hawaiian flavor.

Rag Quilt
So many fabrics to chose from. I LOVE that I actually had all of this mink on hand. I know its not the most matching but if you have ever looked out at the ocean or up at the mountains in Hawaii there are sooo Many colors I figured it is kind of authentic if its not all matchy match. Plus you cant go wrong with more soft minky on the back to keep Grandpas and Grandmas warm haha.

Rag Quilt
This quilt has 4 boarders. I left a 1/2 inch seem alowance around all of the blocks and the boarders so the mink could show through and be soft and fun on the front.

Rag Quilt
Oh I love how this turned out. Its just pretty. Another island touch. I had Jake draw a few designs on a couple of squares and made an attempt at free motion haha. Its all fun and games till you have to try and pick out anything on Minky. DONT MESS UP!! hahaha. jk.

Rag Quilt
Its All Minky So our Hawaiian parents could snuggle up and be warm in the cold of Utah.

Rag Quilt
I LOVE the ocean and all it has to offer a girl. So I jumped at the opportunity to make an Island flavored quilt.

Grandma Sally’s Blue Hawaii Quilt

Grandma taught us all how to hand sew little pillows with scraps from her ever growing scrap basket. She patiently taught us how to tie the knots and take small stitches and make sure the fabrics were facing the right way. Everything I teach on the first day of my camps I learned from my Grandma Sally:D Thank goodness for her willingness to patiently teach a bunch of crazy kids. Thanks Grandma ;D

Ruffles made easy. I just made a big zig zag stitch over a sturdy twine. All you do is smush up the fabric until its the desired length and tie off the string so it stays in place:D
